I was looking at a list of television stations in the Greensboro-Winston-Salem market.  Among the different stations was WXII, WXLV, WLXI, and WGPX.  I immediately noticed an unusually high frequency of the relatively rare letter X in all of their call letters, not to mention a lot of L’s and I’s too.  These concentration of [...]

A few days ago I posted the Graphics section of my demo reel.  Here’s the Promos section.  It’s three Andy Griffith promos (all award winners), 2 news image promos, and a station image.  All of them are from my time at 64.

As I continue to put together my demo reel, last night I completed the graphics montage section of it. This weekend I’ll combine this with promos I wrote/produced/edited at my previous employer to finally complete my demo reel DVD.

Today the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Board of Education voted to eliminate the district’s entire video production department, including its public access television station.  Therefore, I and all my co-workers will no longer have a job after June 30th.  This was part of an overall “reduction in force” due to the failing economy. You’ll notice I’m not [...]

Patty and I have been waiting for Conan’s glorious return to late night television but we were sad to hear today that he’s signed a deal to be on TBS.  Sure that’s just basic cable (or satellite), but we don’t have cable at all.  We still use rabbit ears.

Tonight is Jay Leno’s return to The Tonight Show.  I admit that I was always more of a Leno fan than Letterman.  The only time I watched Letterman in the last several years was when, and because of, U2 performing a full week to launch their No Line on the Horizon album.  But I was [...]

Earlier today a friend posted a funny local television commercial to Facebook. It was for a used trailer home seller and featured the hilarious tag line of “Come on down to Cullman Liquidation and get yourself a home, or don’t, I don’t care.” That’s when I followed the post-roll to a website called I Love [...]

The 23rd Regional Emmy Awards were held in Nashville this past weekend so I checked their website to see how many of my past co-workers at WSOC / WAXN were nominated for awards. I was surprised to find that some of MY spots were nominated for an Emmy. What!? Yup, my work was nominated for [...]

Many of you know that I’ve spent the last 10 years making a living (and a couple of Emmys) from writing promos for The Andy Griffith Show. I had never even heard of this show before moving to North Carolina but I quickly became an expert on this classic show. That’s why I found this [...]

Adobe After Effects is the tool for professional film and video post-production effects. I’ve been editing video on Avid for thirteen years (mostly Media Composers) but I never had the opportunity to enhance my own work with After Effects’ high-end compositing effects. I was promised AE training for years but it just never happened. I [...]
