Today was the last day for CMS-TV. Back on May 11th the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Board of Education voted 7-2 to cut all funding to CMS-TV, effectively eliminating the station in a single amendment vote. In addition to operating the school system’s cable PEG channel, CMS-TV also served as the media services department for the entire [...]
A few days ago I posted the Graphics section of my demo reel. Here’s the Promos section. It’s three Andy Griffith promos (all award winners), 2 news image promos, and a station image. All of them are from my time at 64.
As I continue to put together my demo reel, last night I completed the graphics montage section of it. This weekend I’ll combine this with promos I wrote/produced/edited at my previous employer to finally complete my demo reel DVD.
Yesterday I asked friends on Facebook whether a two-page resume is acceptable if you have enough experience to warrant it, or is the old notion of one-page-only still valid? I got a lot of replies and as I expected, opinions were split about 50/50. But then I noticed a surprising trend. It wasn’t random at [...]
Yesterday was almost an exciting day, three different times, but nothing happened. I actually find it odd that so much could have happened yesterday, yet none of the stories panned out. First, back on March 28th a quick but violent storm blew threw Charlotte and dumped nickle to quarter sized hail throughout the neighborhood. (For [...]
Today the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Board of Education voted to eliminate the district’s entire video production department, including its public access television station. Therefore, I and all my co-workers will no longer have a job after June 30th. This was part of an overall “reduction in force” due to the failing economy. You’ll notice I’m not [...]
Today I attended a middle school career fair and manned a booth representing the television industry. While I was there I observed several interesting things. I wish the following stories were an April Fools joke but unfortunately they’re not. I set up one of our broadcast video cameras on a tripod and connected it to [...]
Earlier today a friend posted a funny local television commercial to Facebook. It was for a used trailer home seller and featured the hilarious tag line of “Come on down to Cullman Liquidation and get yourself a home, or don’t, I don’t care.” That’s when I followed the post-roll to a website called I Love [...]
The 23rd Regional Emmy Awards were held in Nashville this past weekend so I checked their website to see how many of my past co-workers at WSOC / WAXN were nominated for awards. I was surprised to find that some of MY spots were nominated for an Emmy. What!? Yup, my work was nominated for [...]
This has probably been the busiest December I’ve ever had. I’m not quite done with a stretch where I’ll have worked late for 9 of 11 consecutive days. Starting with last Monday December 8th, I worked late due to Monday Night Football. Then I worked late on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday because we’re recording a [...]
